Stressing that the agricultural industry in Northern Ireland needed a long-term programme to boost confidence for the future, Mr Noel Bailie, the newly-elected president of the Ulster Farmers’ Union, said during this week in 1983: “We have efficient farmers and we are not afraid to compete on equal terms, provided they are equal.”
