I was pleased to read Greg Guma’s account of the Decentralist League of Vermont. It was an inspired but ephemeral effort, as Greg says, “to take aim at centralized power and wealth, the League asserted that decentralizing both, where and whenever possible, is the best way to preserve diversity, increase self-sufficiency, and satisfy human needs.” I would add, “defend individual liberty and a free society.” Today, 46 years later, I suspect Greg and I still have a lot in common in our critical views of the contemporary political scene.
