Taunton Mr Massachusetts: Yurkovskiy vies for Mr Supranational USA

TAUNTON  Taunton resident Michael Yurkovskiy already has the title of Mr. Massachusetts, but he s determined to become Mr. Supranational USA.  The 25-year-old is a model, legislative aide for Republican State Rep. David DeCoste and leadership director and scholarship advisor for the Campus Leadership Project, an initiative by conservative non-profit Turning Point USA. But now, he is making his debut as a beauty king.  I m really just looking forward to the experience, to meeting people to finally show the world my talent and what I have to bring to the world, he said.  Come May 14, he ll be competing against 20 other men for the title of Mr. Suprational USA, a cash prize, and the chance to win the international title of Mr. Supranational. The competition will take place at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas over the course of three days in front of a live and online audience. 

Taunton gasification: MNA Massachusetts Nurses Association concerned

TAUNTON    Adding to public health concerns about a proposed gasification plant at the former Taunton landfill, the state s largest nurses union has sent a letter of concern to the city about the plant s potential impact on public health. The plant proposed by Aries Clean Technologies would take the region s sewage sludge and turn it into biochar to be sold to the construction industry. It would be located on a part of the former landfill site on East Brittania Street and could net millions for the city.  Taunton City Councilor Barry Sanders read the letter from the Massachusetts Nurses Association during a City Council meeting Tuesday night.

Conservative Taunton teen announces bid for City Council TAUNTON  Trevor Costa, a 19-year-old Taunton native and Bristol Community College student, has thrown his hat in the ring to run for City Council.  Costa said he is passionate about supporting Taunton police, ensuring public safety, giving more incentives for businesses to move to Taunton, making sure marijuana shops are sited sensibly and keeping taxes low.  I want to run to make a difference in the lives of constituents. I will do this by being completely transparent on my viewpoints, always seeking input from residents on the issues most important to them and working to solve them for the betterment of the city, he said in a statement.
