Westford among communities to provide forgivable loans for businesses

Acton Town Manager John Mangiaratti, Boxborough Town Administrator Ryan Fererra, Littleton Town Administrator Anthony Ansaldi, Maynard Town Administrator Gregory Johnson and Westford Town Manager Jodi Ross recently announced a new partnership between the five communities and TRI The Resource Inc. that may help support micro-businesses impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis.
The town of Acton was awarded $1.6 million in Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus Funding for a Micro-enterprise Forgivable Loan Program. This program will provide eligible businesses a one-time grant of up to $10,000 to help cover costs such as rent, staffing and utilities. This grant will be for small businesses with five or fewer employees (including any owners), whose owner or owners meet low to moderate household income qualification as designated by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Developm

Acton Police Chief Richard Burrows announced that the Acton Police Department has made progress in its investigation into a pair of incidents in which Acton-Boxborough School Committee members were targeted with racial epithets during public meetings.
Through its ongoing investigation, which began after the first incident on Dec. 17, Acton Police have identified a juvenile male in Arizona as a suspect. Acton Police are working with a local Arizona police department to continue the investigation.
The suspect allegedly also attempted to interrupt an Acton Board of Selectmen s meeting Monday, Jan. 11, but was prevented from doing so by town staff who were able to identify the suspicious behavior and stop multiple attempts by the suspect to be disruptive.
