HUNTINGTON — The Cabell County Commission, by a 2-1 vote Thursday, adopted a three-magisterial district map, a change from its current five-district setup.
HUNTINGTON â Republican Del. John Mandt Jr. is seeking election to the Cabell County Commission.
Mandt currently represents the 16th District, which includes parts of Cabell and Lincoln counties, in the West Virginia House of Delegates. Now, he sets his sights on holding local office.
âWe need new blood â thatâs a fact â in our city and county government,â Mandt said.
He first announced his candidacy Friday on the Tom Roten Morning Show and then on Facebook. He said he planned to submit the paperwork to run for commission on Monday.
Mandt said he is announcing his candidacy now as West Virginia begins redistricting and to give potential candidates time to consider running for his seat.

On Wednesday, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) signed a bill banning transgender athletes in middle and high schools and state colleges from competing in sports based on their gender identity.
Justice had previously vowed to sign the measure into law, arguing that restrictions on transgender female athletes were needed to ensure that cisgender women are able to earn honors and awards, or qualify for regional and national meets without worrying that they will lose out to athletes assigned male at birth, who, if they have not undergone hormone therapy, retain unfair physiological advantage.
