John Lumpinski got about as close as you can get to throwing a no-hitter over the weekend for the Siena Saints. While I m sure he was disappointed, the MAAC gave him something to smile about Monday morning.
Lumpinski, a sophomore pitcher on the Siena baseball team, was awarded the MAAC Pitcher of the Week Award by the league office for his efforts on the mound Sunday against Rider. In a seven inning game, the right-hander went the first 6.2 innings without giving up a hit, before ultimately hurling the full seven innings to pick up the victory for the Saints. He allowed just one hit, while also walking one batter, striking out six en route to his fourth win of the season.
