announcer: from abc news, this is world news now with john muller and diana perez. good friday morning. we begin with the minnesota teenager s plot to kill his family and stage a massacre at his high school. 17-year-old armed to the teeth with bombs and firearms had his chilling plot foiled by an eagle eyewitness who phoned in a tip to police. this happened in a small town 8 80 miles south of minneapolis. abc s josh haskell is following the investigation. reporter: john la due sits in a juvenile detention center after police found guns, explosives that belong to him to be used in an attack in the next few weeks. during his interview with officers, ladue revealed his plan was to kill his family members, start a diversionary fire to detract first responders and travel to the waseca junior high school. reporter: there authorities say he planned to detonate
a teenager charged in a plot to kill his family and stage a massacre at his high school. 17-year-old john ladue has been charged in juvenile court after an eyewitness tipped off police he was acting strangely in a storage facility. inside the facility, police found three fully functional bombs and an entire arsenal. officers observed materials in the storage locker consistent with bomb making, including a pressure cooker, pyrotechnic chemicals, steel ball bearings and gunpowder. at his home, police found an 180-page notebook laying out his plan. his motive is unclear. police believe he was acting alone. all right. a startling twist in the donald sterling story this morning. the banned clippers owner has prostate cancer. the 80-year-old sterling is expected to fight the lifetime ban by the nba but may not have the time. the new york post said he has been battling cancer for some time now. post also reports sterling moved out of his home because he s
still no idea where the jetliner is with the search area expanded from 120 square miles to more than 21,000 square miles. david kerley, abc news, washington. los angeles clippers owner donald sterling has bigger problems than a ban by the nba. the 80-year-old is battling prostate cancer. source tells the new york post sterling wasn t expected to live this long. the league banned him for racist comments he made and were recorded and made public. it is up to other league owners to decide if he has to sell the team. the sterling scandal claimed another victim. the president of the los angeles chapter of the naacp leon jenkins had planned to honor sterling later this month with a lifetime achievement award. jenkins cancelled that after the recording surfaced. sterling has been investigated for housing discrimination before but an ad before but the award labelled him a humanitarian. a 17-year-old is in custody for plotting to kill his entire family and blow up his high school. john la
