STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) â Montgomery Hall Park is one of many historical landmarks for the Staunton community. The story of the park begins with a plantation owned by John Howe Peyton.
âThat plantation was a success because of the slave labor that was there. About 50 people at any one time were enslaved on the farm. It made Peyton one of the largest slaveholders in Augusta County,â recalls local historian Nancy Sorrells.
