Lord Wolfson of Sunningdale, who has died aged 85, was, as David Wolfson, Mrs Thatcher’s first chief of staff when she was Prime Minister, and then became chairman of Great Universal Stores (GUS), the retail giant founded before the war as a mail order clothing company by his uncle Isaac Wolfson.
