Death of mother, son in Boonton pond ruled accidental
The deaths of a mother and her young son in a Boonton park pond have been ruled accidental.
After 35-year-old Warda Syed s 6-year-old son was found crying for his mother in her parked car on Feb. 23, police tracked footprints to the edge of the Rockaway River. They discovered the bodies of Syed and her son Uzair Ahmed,11, in the water in the Upper Pond section of the Grace Lord Park.
Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll said the manner of death was determined by the Morris County Medical Examiner to be accidental and no criminal activity was involved. Carrol did not provide details about how they wound up in the water.

The Morris County Medical Examiner has ruled the deaths of the Boonton mother and her 11-year-old son, whose bodies were recovered from the Rockaway River last week, to be accidental, law-enforcement authorities said Tuesday.
The bodies of Warda Syed, 35, and her son, Uzair Ahmed, were discovered in the early evening of Feb. 23 in the water at the top of a dam in the Upper Pond of Grace Lord Park, where a waterfall empties into a river gorge. There is no cause to believe there was any criminal activity involved in either individual’s death, Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll wrote in a statement released by his office. Out of respect and consideration for the family of the deceased, there will be no further comment on the circumstances of the incident.

BOONTON The mother who was found dead with one of her young sons in a park pond on Tuesday night had faced a series of tragedies in the days before, reports say.
The bodies of Warda Syed, 35, and 11-year-old Uzair Ahmed were discovered in the water in the Upper Pond section of Grace Lord Park after people encountered Syed s surviving 6-year-old son alone in a parked car nearby.
Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll has not revealed the circumstances or cause of their deaths.
Flowers, teddy bears and messages of condolence were left at the park on Tuesday.
A doctor whose cousin rented an apartment to Syed’s family told NBC 4 New York that Syed s husband was being treated for Stage 4 cancer. In addition, her brother died from coronavirus two weeks ago and her sister, a doctor, died three days ago in Pakistan.
