that s the real world listen here. john edwards does not have a political career. the fact that he s desperate to get into public life still and from what i understand what he is saying, that s what he wants. he ought to go. he reminds me of a trial you read about around the world these kinds of trials they hold when you lose, the guys who win president you up for trial, it s just really tawdry, the whole thing. i never like the smell of this case. thank you chuck todd and john heilmann. more on the trial as we continue to program. and why do voters, here the jurors, push back when there is a sex scandal involved. they don t want to hear about it or think about it. we saw all during the clinton era, the voters don t want to deal with these matters and they vote on the facts. wake up!
let s go to two of our big heavy weights. we have chuck todd and john heilmann. he wrote the cover story on the obama campaign strategy, that s what we were going to talk about but we have to talk about this. bring us back for this. those covering him in 2004 in those small rooms in iowa and in new hampshire, he was a force to be reckoned with. it was emotional, populism like never heard before, and now here he is facing 30 years he was facing today and he is still free. let s not forget if bob had gotten his way in 2000, it would have been gore verses edwards. he was one of the short listers in 2000. that ticket might have won. it might have.
that doesn t ask for something in return. we support them because they share our values for education, health care, the environment, the economy, social issues. they re in line with how we feel about things. and we look at, we look at the totally of a candidate, not just at a very narrow specific final interest. what do you make of romney s absolute straight arrow opposition for anything for gay people. not only marriage, but total opposition to any movement whatever. he saysly never e value, nothing for civil unions, no rights out there, nothing in terms of equality. is he just do you think he is just saying maybe i can pick off north carolina here? maybe i can get back in the game in ohio and iowa? what s he up to saying nothing, i m giving gay people nothing. i m not giving them nothing, not even crumbs. i think john heilmann pointed
something. he needs to stand up for what he thinks is right. he needs to say this is the right thing to do, and then he has to say this is the do nothing congress in the way of getting people jobs. back to that, john, you have to answer the question now. it seems if he said he wants more, and didn t get it, we would have had nothing. this is the problem of dealing with congress. it s a problem, and i would never put myself in a position of arguing economics with paul krugman, but the white house worries about the next news cycle for sure, but there has never been a white house in our life time that s done more research, that polls more intensely than this white house does. and they would argue that when they ve had pressure, they ve heard from voters who have gotten scared by the size of the deficits. i don t disagree with paul when he says obviously job and economic growth and lower unemployment would be the best
to pay taxes. also, there s a big thing in the business world that says, you need confidence. and that that translates into you can t say anything remotely critical about big business or remotely critical about wall street because that would hurt confidence. if you say we can create jobs by providing aide, then we don t need the confidence so much. this is a club they re holding over the head of the president, and they hate there is an alternative that would make that club not so valuable. the name of the book, end this depression now, paul krugman, everybody reads you as the ideal. john heilmann we miss you. thank you again. coming up, dirty rank ri money,
