Following a call on social media to report similar incident to the law enforcement, a California man spotted traveling in the back seat of a driverless Tesla was arrested in the Bay Area on Monday night, authorities said.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol said Param Sharma was arrested on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and disobeying a peace officer. The 25-year-old California man went home after spending the night in Santa Rita Jail.
According to The New York Times, the Highway Patrol said that the police officers responded at around 6:35 p.m. after 911 dispatchers received calls regarding a Tesla Model 3 traveling east on Interstate 80 across the Bay Bridge with no one in the driver s seat.

Two California Highway Patrol officers shot and killed a man who they said turned a loaded gun on them following a car accident Saturday night, authorities said Tuesday.
The shooting occured after CHP officers responded to reports of an accident Saturday on Interstate 80 at Dixon Avenue north of Vacaville at 10:31 p.m., said Monica Martinez, spokeswoman for the Solano County district attorney’s office. As they approached a car parked on the highway shoulder, officers said a man threatened them with a gun that turned out to be loaded.
Man charged with attempted murder, sex crime after freeway stabbing

A San Francisco man has been charged with attempted murder, carjacking, sexual assault and other serious crimes after authorities say he attacked his on-and-off girlfriend of many years and stabbed her ex-boyfriend in a fit of jealousy.
On Monday, the Alameda County district attorney’s office charged 32-year-old Losvel Bethea with attempted murder, by means of stabbing with a knife, in connection with a man identified in court papers as John Doe. Bethea was also charged with carjacking, forcible oral copulation, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment by violence and kidnapping in connection with a woman identified in court papers as Jane Doe. He was also charged with several misdemeanors.
