You didnt want goldwaters finger next to that button. We have the guts to make our intentions clear so clear they dont need translation or interpretation. Man senator goldwater was not the extremist that he was painted. Some of the people behind him were, but he wasnt. Sabato in 1964, it was the grassroots in the Republican Party that changed the g. O. P. Forever. Almost the entire republican establishment either publicly or privately abhorred goldwater, didnt want him to be the nominee and then didnt really support him when he became the nominee. Would be governor, senator or president , a lot of people would have said ed prichard of kentucky. He was one of those people who worked in the white house when he was in his early 20s. He seemed destined for great things and then came back to kentucky and in the 1940s was indicted for stuffing a ballot box. Went to prison. And so that incredible promise just falmed out. We also visit ashland, the former home of speaker of the house, senator and secretary of state henry clay. The mansion at ashland is a unique situation. Calys original clays original home had to be torn down. It fell into disrepair. His son built on the original foundation. What we have is a home that is a fivepart federal style home as henry clay had with details in architecture and elements and an added layer of aesthetic details added by henry clays granddaughter and so on.
