Former England seamer Robin Jackman, who took 1,402 first-class wickets at an average of 22, has died aged 75.
He played four Tests in the twilight of his career, taking 14 wickets with a best of 4-110, and was a respected commentator after retiring as a player.
His 11 winters coaching and playing in apartheid South Africa led to a Test in West Indies being cancelled in 1980-81.
The Guyana government withheld his visa and as a result England s management decided not to play the Test.
“A wonderful man who I was lucky enough to spend some quality time with.RIP” Edrich, who died of natural causes at his home in Scotland, scored 103 first-class centuries and was awarded an MBE in 1977. ECB CEO Tom Harrison said: “With John s passing, we ve lost a prolific and fearless batsman – one of the select few who have scored more than 5000 runs for England.
Adrian Murrell
John Edrich, England team selector, with opening batsman Graham Gooch during the Ashes series in 1981. “His duels with some of the world s best fast bowlers were legendary, and it s a testament to his ability that his 310 not out against New Zealand in 1965 remains the fifth highest Test score by an English batsman.
