Time Machine: Cedar Rapids Moonshine King kept making booze (and getting arrested) during Prohibition A man is shown behind the bar of the near beer saloon and restaurant operated during the 1920s by John and Mary Dvorak in southeast Cedar Rapids. The Dvoraks were frequently arrested for bootlegging and other liquor violations during Prohibition. The bar, at 1317 Third St. SE, was known as Puzdernick’s before Prohibition and is the Little Bohemia tavern today. (Gazette archives) Marvin Cone painted “Little Bohemia Tavern” in 1941, a work that is now part of the Coe College art collection. During Prohibition, people could get a cup of illegal “hooch” there during the 1920s. (Coe College)

[Listen] New Swine Barn for the 2021 Rice County Fair?

[Listen] New Swine Barn for the 2021 Rice County Fair? Tuesday on KDHL s AM Minnesota program Rice County Fair manager John Dvorak was my guest. It was fun to look forward to and talk about the 2021 Rice County Fair. Things are still a little uncertain with the COVID-19 pandemic but plans are moving ahead with the 2021 Rice County Fair. John said you cannot just wait until May or June and then put everything together.  Down payments were made for grandstand events and other acts the 2020 Rice County Fair that now will be applied to the 2021 Rice County Fair. There is one major improvement that will be very evident at this year s fair, the new bathrooms!. The structure is up with pretty much all of the outside work done and the inside will be finished this spring. Plus, there may be another major improvement for the 2021 Rice County Fair, a new swine barn. The Rice County Fair received a grant plus John has another major donation and they are well on their way to getting the funds
