Dennis Assistant Fire Chief John Donlan to retire

John Donlan, assistant chief of the Dennis Fire Department, will be retiring after 46 years with the department. His last day is Aug. 13.
Donlan was hired in January 1975 as part of the call fire department and became a full-time employee later that year.
He rose through the ranks of the department as lieutenant, captain, EMS coordinator, deputy, assistant and acting chief.
His department describes him as a rock-solid employee, who is always ready to step up, according to a release from the Dennis Fire Department.
State Rep. Steven Xiarhos, among others, lauded Donlan in a post on the Dennis Professional Firefighters Local 2583 s Facebook page: What a lifetime of service before self and always done with pride, integrity, and a big heart!
