I stand here today joining the chair of representatives, making him one of the longest serving house members in history, and the first africanamerican to hold the title of dean. Congressman conyers was born in detroit on may 16, 1929. He was the eldest of four sons of john and lucille. He attended Public School and graduated from Northwestern High school. After graduating, he served in the National Guard and joined the u. S. Army. He was inspired by his friend dr.
