PLANO, Texas Collin County commissioners demanded answers in an emergency meeting called mid-Friday, after hundreds of residents were turned away for their coronavirus vaccination appointments at John Clark Stadium in Plano on Thursday.
Curative, a third-party vaccination distribution contractor, is in charge of getting shots into arms at that site.
Vice President of Marketing Miranda Gottlieb represented the company in the meeting as commissioners hurled pointed questions her way.
We were just kind of being turned away without given any explanation of exactly what happened, said Hsieh. In the back of my mind, I’m like ‘am I even still on the waitlist? Do I need to start this process again? Things like that.
Bill Burnett reported a night and day difference between the McKinney and Plano vaccination sites. Burnett got the vaccine Thursday without issue at McKinney Stadium, but said his wife spent two and a half hours in line on the streets around the stadium before being turned away and told to try again tomorrow.
The Collin County Health Department said earlier in the week it saw large numbers of no-shows on our daily appointment schedules.
Texan believes the COVID-19 vaccine paves way to freedom to return to some normalcy This is my way to freedom. I can go back to work, said Pat Parker, who received her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Author: Jobin Panicker Updated: 11:02 PM CST February 2, 2021
PLANO, Texas Pat Parker said she felt a nervous excitement as she drove up to get her COVID-19 vaccine at John Clark Stadium in Plano on Tuesday. The Plano resident did not think this day would come for a long while, especially when she found out she was number 16,793 on the county s wait list. This is my way to freedom. I can go back to work, said Parker.
“A lot of people shared something that was very explicitly marked and every time we sent out a new iteration of the list we made it even bolder and bolder do not forward, do not share,” said Collin County Commissioner Darrell Hale.
According to Hale, people on the county’s vaccination list who were due to be vaccinated at the new site were sent a separate email from Curative that allowed them to directly sign up for a vaccination time. But many, according to Hale, also sent the email to friends and family who were not yet due to be vaccinated, resulting in the 1,700 erroneous sign-ups.

Officials say there are nearly half a million people in Dallas County alone on the list to get vaccinated.
But the convention center site will have just about 5,000 doses to distribute for people with appointments only. Organizers hope to vaccinate about 200 people per hour over the next three days.
