Brandon Tsay, the man who disarmed accused gunman Huu Can Tran in Alhambra after Tran killed 10 in Monterey Park, was honored at the Alhambra Lunar New Year Festival Sunday.
Organizers said they struggled with whether to hold the celebration, as the community mourned along with the rest of the country over the Jan. 21 shooting deaths of 11 in neighboring Monterey Park.
The man credited with saving an unknown number lives by wrestling a gun away from a mass murderer at an Alhambra dance studio received a phone call Thursday from President Joe Biden, who thanked him for "taking such incredible action."
