Provo Fire Department to increase salaries for incoming paramedics

(Pavel Danilyuk/Pexels) Provo City Council members unanimously approved a resolution appropriating $105,000 to the fire department’s budget in order to create more competitive salaries and attract new paramedics, according to the March 30 council meeting agenda. “Over the last two years, we’ve seen several agencies up and down the Wasatch Front, as they are trying to recruit people into public safety, making significant adjustments into salaries that are paid to attract people into the service,” said Provo human resources analyst Daniel Softley. 

Utah County higher education sees severals highs, lows in 2020

For higher education in Utah County, 2020 was one heck of a ride. The COVID-19 pandemic hit close to Brigham Young University when the first student contracted the virus in late March, and it led to some tough hurdles to overcome while also lending to amazing feats of adaptability. From there, Utah Valley University held a drive-in commencement ceremony and was ranked No. 3 in the nation for best return on investment, BYU began to have trouble managing COVID-19 as students began returning to campus in the fall, and schools started to ramp up COVID-19 testing efforts after a state of emergency declaration.
