a protracted default. why are republicans playing with americans pocketbooks? katie i think most americans do expect there to be a sincere negotiation i think that is happening. sincere is illogical of your using. the question is will republicans take a deal. we saw this happen a little over ten years ago. john boehner, barack obama at that time were negotiating a grand bargain. they reached an agreement, john boehner couldn t get the votes in the house to pass that agreement. will that happen again? and if that does happen again, is kevin mccarthy willing to pass a debt ceiling increase with a bipartisan coalition? some republicans and some democrats, those are the two big questions. if the answer is no to both of those questions, if republicans won t take a deal, and they won t pass a bipartisan bill, that it is going to fall on republicans. if democrats refused to negotiate, which up to now, president biden did some posturing early, but he s clearly at the terry table.
they re tired. they have a split coalition. no consensus. so, maybe speaker ryan can do what john boehner couldn t, although this really isn t a good way to start a report card, is it? no, and it continues to the same old antics. thank you very much. the one thing we look at when he look at debates is not only what they say, whether they re falk actually right or wrong, but the passion various candidates engender. understood do they bring some oomph to the table? and when it comes to oomph, there s one candidate that frank luntz discovered is second to none. and he is not the guy you might be thinking about, after this. thousands of people came out today to run the race for retirement. so we asked them. are you completely prepared for retirement? okay, mostly prepared? could you save 1% more of your income?
to elect anybody to a third term. i think bernie, if he s the nominee, he wouldn t run for a third obama term. he will run for a first sanders term. and we respect everything the president has done, the vice president. the circumstances they came into were incredible. they have done a fabulous job. but the country is demanding change right now. if that s what they want, we have a chance of winning the election. our colleague luke russert has just gotten an exclusive moment with paul ryan who is now the acknowledged leader in the race to become the next speaker. let s take a look at that. reporter: are you set for the job, mr. ryan? you know me. i m not a walk and talk guy. reporter: are you excited about this for your colleagues? to put this behind you?
