This Week’s Awesome Tech Stories From Around the Web (Through May 22) Sara Castellanos | The Wall Street Journal “Alphabet Inc.’s Google plans to spend several billion dollars to build a quantum computer by 2029 that can perform large-scale business and scientific calculations without errors, said [Google’s] Hartmut Neven. … ‘We are at this inflection point,’ said Dr. Neven, who has been researching quantum computing at Google since 2006. ‘We now have the important components in hand that make us confident. We know how to execute the road map.’i” Samuel Axon | Ars Technica “The potential of AR as a computing platform is clear, but it won’t reach the mass market until some big breakthroughs happen. Investment is pouring in like never before, so those breakthroughs could very well come. But predicting just how quickly (or slowly) that process will move is difficult.”

AirTags Are the Perfect Dog-Tracking Device

Photo: John Biggs/Gizmodo Nina is a 9-year-old doggie from South Carolina who we adopted last March. She is also a runner. One evening, a week into her time with us, she wandered off for two days, freaking us out quite a bit. Advertisement She darted away again about a month ago. Thankfully a passerby picked her up and took her for a ride, eventually returning her when we posted about her on Facebook. She’s a wonderful little dog, but apparently, she’s a ramblin’ girl. When AirTags came out a few weeks ago, I thought I had a solution. An always-on tracking device that can pinpoint Nina with relative accuracy sounded like a godsend something, even with all its flaws, that would let me follow Nina during her next trip. I decided it was time to track my tiny, furry fugitive.

BenQ SW271C Monitor Review: An Excellent Tool for Photographers

Photo: John Biggs/Gizmodo Advertisement The monitor can work in portrait and landscape mode and has a multi-access stand that allows you to lift and lower the monitor and even tilt it up. Four buttons along the bottom control the various color settings and inputs. Picking the video input is as simple as pressing the first button and selecting HDMI-1, HDMI-2, DisplayPort, or USB-C. Taking a picture of this monitor is a frustrating experience. A 1000:1 contrast ratio and full In-Plane Switching (IPS) makes this a bright and viewable monitor from multiple angles. To ensure proper lighting, BenQ includes an optional light hood to reduce glare on the already matte and non-reflective screen.
