The ANU Centre for European Studies is delighted to host a discussion between ANUCES Distinguished Visitor, Dr Klaus-Peter Klaiber KCMG, together with ANUCES Visiting Fellows, Mr Kyle Wilson and Dr John Besemeres, on the post-Cold War relationship between Russia and NATO in the second half of the twentieth century. Chaired by ANUCES Director Anne McNaughton, the conversation will explore Dr Klaiber’s experiences as a diplomat and NATO Assistant Secretary General, and the panel’s observations on the tumultuous decade between 1989-1999.
Dr Klaus-Peter Klaiber KCMG is one of Germany’s most experienced diplomats. He has variously served in the then-Republic of Zaire (1971-1973), the United States of America (1977-1980), Kenya (1980-1982), the United Kingdom (1991-1994), and most recently, as ambassador to Australia (2002-2005). His tenure as Assistant Secretary General of NATO between 1997 and 2001 coincided with the transition between the Yeltsin and Pu
