WOODBURY, MN Parents and community members from South Washington County Schools (District 833) braved the Minnesota weather Thursday night as they rallied outside the district s service center before the monthly school board meeting.
At January s school board meeting, it was announced that the school board planned to cut elementary band and orchestra programs.
Parents and band boosters from across the district banded together and formed a coalition to try and convince the school board to reverse their decision. The group commissioned John Benham, a national expert on saving music programs, to conduct a study of the district to see how cutting elementary band and orchestra would affect the district.

ANDERSON, Calif. - Starting this month, teachers in Shasta County will be able to get their COVID-19 vaccine.
The Anderson Union High School District is working closely with the Shasta County Office of Education and Shasta County Public Health to make sure teachers get vaccinated.
Community members believe getting teachers vaccinated is the first step to getting things back to normal.
“They re the leaders, they re the examples,” said John Benham of Redding. “If the teachers are going to do it, the students are going to follow the teachers. I think they should get vaccinated, let s get these schools up and running again.”

WOODBURY, MN Teachers and community members from South Washington County Schools (District 833) are coming together to save the district s elementary school band and orchestra programs, which the school board voted to cut on Thursday.
District 833 is home to 16 elementary schools which would lose their band and orchestra programs if the vote is not reversed. Students would instead have to wait until middle school to join a band or orchestra.
