John Balkevitch, 81, and his dog both ultimately perished inside the burning house in Roseville, Michigan around 11 a.m. and neighbors looking to help couldn’t get past the fierce flames, friends and family said.
Family and neighbors say 81-year-old John Balkevitch of Roseville escaped his burning home Saturday morning before returning to attempt to save his rescue dog Lexie. Both died in the fire.
Witnesses said John Balkevitch ran outside of his house when he heard a loud boom sound and then went back in when he realized his dog was still inside.
