Sene West NCCE marks constitution week

The Sene West district office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged the Leemu Ntrubuso branch of the Church of Pentecost as part of this year’s citizenship week celebration.
The annual event is a flagship programme of the NCCE instituted to commemorate the country’s return to constitutional democratic rule after many years of military adventurism in governance.
Speaking on the theme We Are One, Ghana First the District Director of the Commission Mr Cletus Y. Suuk spoke on the need to hold duty bearers responsible for their actions as well as the importance of ensuring national unity and peaceful co-existence.

The African Union (AU) has appointed former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama as its High Representative to Somalia, to help mediate between stakeholders towards a mutually acceptable compromise for the holding of elections in the country.
The Chairperson of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat made the announcement in a statement on Saturday (May 9, 2021), saying Mr Mahama will work with Somali stakeholders to reach a mutually acceptable compromise. The stakeholders have failed to agree on an electoral calendar and on who should manage the polls.
“In fulfilling his mandate, Mahama will be supported by the peacekeepers serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) to ensure mediation efforts and the peace support operation work together seamlessly,” he said.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims the European Union (EU) Observer Mission, that monitored the 2020 elections and declared Ghana as a strong democracy in Africa, is biased towards the ruling NPP.
Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Buamah Otokunor, believes the EU Observer Mission failed to include their concerns about the elections in their report.
To this end, the NDC says they will demand an amendment to the European Union election observation report at a meeting with the EU delegation.

Investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, believes now is the time for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to consider Bawumia as the running mate for the 2024 general elections. His reason is that the Vice President and wife have sacrificed like a donkey for the party.
“The Bawumia’s have worked like donkeys during the campaigns and we have tangible results to show for their sweat in certain identifiable electoral quarters. He is part of the reason many of us have enjoyed or will enjoy the power and its trappings in the eight years,” he stated.
