In excerpts of the book published in an essay earlier this month, Boehner decried what he said are the crazy forces that have taken control of the Republican Party and the conservative media landscape and pumped oxygen into its worst impulses.
He also told Todd on Sunday that the potential plan to form a nativist anti-immigration America First Caucus in the House was one of the nuttiest things I ve ever seen. America is a land of immigration, he said. We ve been the world s giant melting pot for the last 200 years, and we ve got to celebrate that we re this giant melting pot.

One person was killed and five others were injured during a shooting that took place at a vigil for a shooting victim on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.
CNN reported that the shooting occurred in the parking lot of a Dollar General where a vigil was being held for Jarrin Hickman, who had been killed there one year prior.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff s Office, a dark SUV drove by the vigil around 7:30 p.m. and began shooting at the crowd, hitting five people, including a 12-year-old child. All five people were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
“There’s no reason someone needs a weapon of war with 100 rounds, 100 bullets, that can be fired from that weapon. Nobody needs that, nobody needs that,” Biden said during a speech from the Rose Garden. “For the 10 years we had it done, the number of mass shootings actually went down. Even law enforcement officials have told me and told other champions of this legislation they sometimes feel outgunned by assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
Boehner, who led a Republican caucus during former President Barack Obama So, those in power now are going to have to figure out what can be done, the former Speaker said on CNN about Republican leadership in Congress today. It s not about what everybody wants. It s a matter of what can be accomplished in a bipartisan way.”

We ve been the world s giant melting pot for the last 200 years, and we ve got to celebrate that we re this giant melting pot, he continued, adding that it was the silliest thing he s ever seen and that members of the GOP should denounce it.
Boehner went on to add in the interview that his greatest regret as Speaker was not reaching a deal with former President Obama to reform the U.S. immigration system.
