cnn s scott mcclane. give us the latest. reporter: john and poppy, you didn t even mention the sulfur dioxide that is floating around parts of this island and really dangerous concentrations, thanks largely to the 20 plus fissures that opened up like the one that we re looking at right now. this is the most active one. you can see it continues to spew lava. geologists say that it is dying down. but, listen you can hear it there, we have been watching it now for the past four nights. at least to our untrained eyes and ears, some of the loudest and most intense explosions that we have noticed have happened just in the past couple of hours. there are also the quakes to contend with. u.s. geological service, they mapped them over the past two weeks and the volume, the frequency of them is absolutely stunning to see. some are small, you don t even hardly notice them. others, like the 4.2 that we felt yesterday, well, they are impossible to miss.
people and for the hard-liners bleeds into one. you could see that today at the friday prayers, an angry speech by the hard-lines leader. i want to read you part of what he said. he says we are not interested in the atomic bomb but we are increasing our missile capabilities in other fields so that israel cannot sleep. if she gets crazy, speaking again about israel, we will turn tell avoo tel aviv and haifa to dust. iran is making preparations for uranium enrichment on an industrial scale, poppy. fred pleitgen for us inside of tehran. also this morning, as fred just noted, israel is claiming that it struck almost all of iran s millary assets in syria during those air strikes on wednesday. let s get to the golan heights. oren, what s the latest? reporter: john and poppy, israel put on a long list of targets it says it hit as well as a picture of where those
guarantee. he should not step in north korea until he has some iran clad agreement. the north korean regime has agreed to agreements in the past and not enforced them. this all has to go very carefully. you want to be fair. we all criticize trump sometime. he has done well. it s wonderful these three people have been released today. gentlemen, thank you both very much. a great morning for those men and their families. another major development overseas, a barrage of rockets and missiles marking the most direct confrontation we ve seen in a long time between israel and iran. it comes less than two days after the united states withdrew from the nuclear deal. oren liebermann is following the conflict for us. what s the latest? reporter: john and poppy, shortly after midnight here that the idf, 20 rockets were fired from behind me here towards israeli military positions not far from where we re standing. israel responded very quickly with a combination of surface to surface missile
instructed homeland security to keep it out. leyla santiago has been tracking them in tijuana. reporter: john and poppy, still dozens waiting for their turn to make their claim to seek asylum the legal way into the united states of america. u.s. federal law says they have to go to a port of entry, seek asylum there, that is where they are. according to border patrol they have 28 people in custody that they are currently processing. so what does that mean? what should we expect to happen next? that means that an asylum officer will be talking to them for what they call a credible fear interview. they ll be asked why are you leaving, where are you going? they ll get sort of their story and their take as to why they feel that they should get asylum in the united states of america. when that will be complete, we re not sure, but if that is if they are deemed to have a credible fear, their case will then move to an immigration court which can actually be a pretty long process and where
one of the favorite parts of my committee, it shows all the flaws this committee has had by the way republicans have been leading it. at one point a republican asked glenn simpson, how would we find out what has been alleged on money laundering? simpson curiously looked at the republican and said, well, you would have to subpoena that. the republican was acting as if they don t have subpoena power. we do have subpoena power. the problem is they re not willing to use it. you subpoena bank records, you subpoena travel records, subpoena telecommunication records, text message logs. we can find out whether these witnesses are telling the truth just to be clear, right now when you say you ve seen evidence of money laundering having to do with the trump organization, not talking about paul manafort, the trump organization and the russians righ now. have you seen evidence, direct evidence beyond what glenn simpson said? beyond glenn simpson, yes evidence is not a conclusion. somebody
