Lawmakers probing the events leading up to 14-year-old David Almond’s death after alleged neglect and abuse found a major question unresolved: Why did the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families allow David and his brother Michael to move back in with their father?
John Almond and his girlfriend, Jaclyn Marie Coleman, are now indicted on charges related to his son’s Oct. 21 death, and a legislative committee sought answers Tuesday on why DCF employees allowed David and his brothers, all children with autism, to be reunited with their father when he hadn’t proven he could adequately care for the teenage boys and particularly those with disabilities.

BOSTON (AP) A Fall River man and his live-in girlfriend who are charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of the man s 14-year-old son have been held without bail.
John Almond and Jacyln Marie Coleman pleaded not guilty in the death of David Almond at their arraignment in Superior Court on Monday.
The autistic teen was found emaciated, bruised and unresponsive at the couple’s Fall River apartment last October and was taken to the hospital where he died.
Attorneys for the suspects asked that their clients be allowed to continue having contact with their 3-year-old son, who also lived in the home.
