This is the cbs evening news with scott pelley. Pelley good evening. This was supposed to be a day of celebration in the spanish city of santiago de compastela, the annual festival to honor st. James. Instead, this was a day of mourning for scores of people in a train wreck as they were heading in the city. The death toll rose today to at least 80. More than 90 people are in the hospital, and more than 30 of them are in critical condition. The question tonight is, why was the train going so fast . Mark phillips is following the investigation. Reporter video from a track side camera appears to confirm the suspicion speed caused this crash, too much of it. It took just seconds to turn a modern train into a death trap. One roberto fariza from houston, texas, and his wife were caught in it. Shes in critical condition. Unfortunately, it got really, really. She got hurt very bad.
