Hospital starts vaccinating employees – Sheridan Media

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine has arrived, and employees at Sheridan Memorial Hospital are being vaccinated. Dr. John Addlesperger, who’s the hospital’s chief of staff, said the vaccine arrived a little after noon Wednesday, and 40 people had been innoculated by Wednesday night. Vaccinations continued Thursday and after a break for the holiday, will continue on Monday. Two vaccines have been approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration at this time, Moderna and Pfizer, but Dr. Addlesperger said the hospital won’t receive the Pfizer vaccine until after the first of the year. But, he said, Sheridan Memorial Hospital expects to have a new ultra-cold freezer in another two or three weeks. The freezer is for the Pfizer vaccine, which has to be stored at a temperature between minus-80 and minus-60 degrees Celcius.

Dr. John Addlesperger, chief medical officer at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, said in an interview with Sheridan Media that the hospital was expecting to receive the vaccine Monday or Tuesday. In an earlier interview, Dr. Addlesperger said the hospital could have the Pfizer vaccine by now, but this week, he said he doesn’t expect that to happen. He said the hospital now doesn’t expect to get the Pfizer vaccine this year. In the earlier interview, Dr. Addlesperger said priority will be given to healthcare workers, in particular those working with COVID-19 patients. He said Monday that because of the holidays, those initial vaccinations may not be finished until the end of next week.

Hospital could have COVID-19 vaccine by end of week – Sheridan Media

Sheridan Memorial Hospital could have some doses of COVID-19 vaccine by the end of the week. That will be the Pfizer vaccine. Dr. John Addlesperger, the hospital’s chief medical officer, said earlier that the Pfizer vaccine wouldn’t be available here because the hospital didn’t have the freezer capacity to store the vaccine at the supercold temperatures required. But in an interview with Sheridan Media Tuesday, he said the hospital does have a freezer capable of keeping the vaccine. Dr. Addlesperger said that isn’t enough for a whole community, so the hospital has ordered another freezer. A second COVID-19 vaccine, Moderna, is still awaiting approval from the national Food and Drug Administration, but if that happens, Dr. Addlesperger said Sheridan Memorial might have that vaccine by the week of Dec. 21.
