Washington County officials are remembering Election Commissioner C.B. Kinch, who died Thursday, as a knowledgeable public servant who used humor to bring people together.
A vote on a rezoning for a meat processing plant near Grandview Elementary School has been postponed by the Washington County Commission until Feb. 24.
The Washington County Election Commission has decided to remain on the third floor of the Washington County Courthouse.
Election commissioners voted unanimously Friday to ask county commissioners to designate funds that would have gone to remodel office space in George P. Jaynes Justice Center to instead be used to pay for specific security upgrades to their current location in the historic downtown Jonesborough courthouse.
âI just want the public to know that regardless of where we are, our staff will conduct a fair and open election,â Election Commission Chairman Gary McAllister said following the vote.
Election Commissioner C. B. Kinch made the motion to remain in the courthouse, which he said is a temporary solution to their office needs.
The Washington County Election Commission could soon be moving its offices to the George P. Jaynes Justice Center.
The County-Owned Property Committee approved a plan Thursday calling for the Election Commission to move its offices, which are currently on the third floor of the Washington County Courthouse, to nearly 2,000 square feet of space in the justice center.
The space was formerly used by the 1st Judicial District attorney generalâs office.
In addition, the committee approved the Election Commissionâs request for the county to lease event space behind the Food City in Jonesborough for early voting in next yearâs elections. The Heritage, 161 Molly Grayce Lane, would only be leased for nine weeks a year to accommodate early voting.
