The state has told the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court that it does not intend to oppose the bail application for sisters who allegedly left five children unattended in a shack that later caught fire, killing all minors.
Johannes Masongwane, the father of the three children who burnt to death while their mother went drinking with her sister, has refused to accommodate her, should she be released on bail.
Under no circumstances can it ever be acceptable for caregivers to leave young children, unsupervised, precisely because their need for social gratification is to them of greater importance than their ultimate responsibility of caring and protecting their young ones.
