A division bench of Justices Gautam Patel and Gauri Godse has asked the respondents – Maharashtra government, SEC and BMC – to file their replies by November 25 and kept the matter for hearing on November 30.
The Bombay High Court issued notice to Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni in a plea challenging an Act passed by the Eknath Shinde led government reducing the number of directly elected councillors within the BMC.
A plea was filed by former BMC corporation Raju Pednekar challenging the ordinance passed on August 8 that reversed the decision on the delimitation of corporation wards.
The present government had passed an ordinance on August 8 that reversed MVA government’s decision on the delimitation of corporation wards and reduced the number of wards from 236 to 227.
