Revere city councilors oppose Wheelabrator Saugus ash landfill expansion

Ten Revere city councilors endorsed a letter sent to the Wheelabrator Subcommittee in which they expressed opposition to any further expansion of the ash landfill operated by the Wheelabrator Saugus trash-to-energy plant.
In the letter, the city councilors point out that a Wheelabrator representative alluded at a previous subcommittee meeting to wanting the ash landfill to go higher than the 50 feet that is currently permitted.
Wheelabrator is currently operating under a valley fill permit with capacity to dispose of ash in the landfill into the fourth quarter of 2024.
Revere residents often bear the brunt of noise and odors coming from the Wheelabrator plant, the city councilors contended.
