Thank you to the PQ-NE Action Group board members and community residents who participated in this morning’s City of San Diego Planning Commission hearing with regard to The Junipers. Despite valid opposition comments during the meeting that included concerns about fire evacuation, traffic congestion, danger due to one exit, loss of green space and so much more, the commissioners unanimously voted to recommend for approval the project to the city council for permitting. Our organization is disappointed, but not surprised. We will continue to share our concerns with elected officials about permitting this project as planned, including City Council members. We will keep you updated on our efforts.

As the City of San Diego prioritizes new housing construction, residents in northeast Rancho Peñasquitos are voicing strong concern over a planned development that would add 536 new homes and apartments on the old Doubletree Golf Course.
If approved, it would be the third housing project near the intersection of Peñasquitos Drive and Carmel Mountain Road, and could double the number of residential units in the area, according to a local community group.

Members of the PQ-NE Action Group plan to take their concerns to the Planning Commission on Thursday, where developer Lennar Homes will present it’s plans for the latest project on the old golf course. The group plans to voice concerns over community infrastructure, fire evacuation routes, traffic and air quality.
RANCHO PENASQUITOS (KUSI) – Tuesday, the San Diego City Planning Commission held a virtual public hearing on an application for the development of The Junipers, Lennar’s proposed project to build 526 homes and apartments.
If the Juniper Project is approved, northeast Rancho Peñasquitos could be home to nearly 3,000 housing units, nearly doubling the current supply.
Community residents, including board members of the PQ-NE Action Group nonprofit, are prepared to voice their concerns about impacts of The Junipers to their community’s infrastructure, fire evacuations, traffic, air quality and lifestyle if the project is recommended for City Council approval.
Joe Pierzina, Board Member, PQ-NE Action Group, who is against the development, joined KUSI’s Paul Rudy on Good Morning San Diego to discuss the project and share why they are looking for community input.
