The vetting of Minister-designate for Public Enterprises, Joseph Cudjoe, was disrupted after Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, demanded clarity on the status of the Public Enterprises Ministry which he described as ldquo;non-existent.
His First Deputy, Joe Osei-Owusu, conveyed the warning on Wednesday, February 3, 2020 in the chamber.
“
Mr Speaker wishes me to draw the attention of the members of the house that some MPs who have, in fact, tested positive, to the COVID, are still coming to the chamber”, he said, adding: “Mr Speaker wishes me to inform that if those members do not withdraw and isolate, he’ll be forced to publish their names of members who have tested positive in order to warn the rest of us”.
The Bekwai MP then said: “Please, let’s take this protocol seriously and let all members who have been informed of their test results that they have tested positive withdraw from the precincts of Parliament, not just the chamber; stay home and self-isolate, go through the protocols and recover before they return to the house”.
The Center noted that lawmakers must not be exempted from punishment, as the country is currently facing a health emergency.

“This is a public health emergency, and I’m sure that we have laws in this country about how to deal with a situation such as this one,” he said, as quoted by Citinewsroom.
“Anybody who has COVID-19 and is moving around simply means that the person is spreading death. This is not very honourable behaviours we’re seeing being exhibited by the Members of Parliament.

The First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei Owusu said the leadership will be compelled to publicly name and shame if the MPs refuse to isolate.
The Bekawi MP who was sitting in for the Speaker, Alban Bagbin said the development puts all members and staff of Parliament at risk of contracting the virus.
“There are some MPs who have in fact tested positive for the virus and are still trooping to the chamber. Mr. Speaker wishes to inform that if those members do not withdraw and isolate, he will be forced to publish the names of members who have tested positive in order to warn the rest of us”, he cautioned.
