Luigi Fontana says it was just a normal Sunday, in the hours leading up to the fateful moment when he learned his seven-year-old daughter Emilia had fallen into the frigid waters of the Blanche River at the Swastika duck pond.
“Church wrapped up and we came home,” Fontana said, recounting the ordeal in a series of emails and messages with Northern News. “We generally take it very relaxed on Sundays, so when the neighborhood kids knocked on the door asking for my three kids to come out they begged and we said yes. Our community here in Swastika has a lot of kids and they band together.”
