Pueblo County s new recreation center: Plans unveiled

The Pueblo Board of County Commissioners got a glimpse of preliminary design concepts for a new recreation center on the St. Charles Mesa, one of the projects Pueblo voted on during 2016 as part of the 1A ballot initiative.   Project Manager Mike Ricottone presented renderings of a sprawling campus that would have facilities to permanently house the county’s 4H Foundation activities and the Colorado State University Pueblo extension during Thursday’s morning work session.   “It helps Pueblo County. It includes everything – you can go out and walk safely, you can come out and drop your kids off and have a safe area,” he said.

Pueblo County Commissioners approve responsible contracting policy

Pueblo’s Board of County Commissioners approved a new contracting policy that would require bidding firms to meet pre-established minimum standards related to health insurance offerings, retirement benefits and a prevailing wage.   The responsible contracting policy will apply to large-scale capital improvement projects that cost at least $2.5 million. It comes after years of negotiating the exact terms. County commissioners were adamant about passing the new policy before requests for proposals go out for the upcoming jail and Joe Martinez Boulevard extension project.  I’m sure this board wants to ensure this policy and our values as a board are reflected in the biggest piece of capital construction in the county’s history,” Commissioner Chair Garrison Ortiz said during Tuesday s board meeting when the board first considered the policy. They officially passed it on Thursday.
