Mission and History
A listener-supported broadcast service of Interlochen Center for the Arts, Interlochen Public Radio is home to two distinct radio stations serving northwest lower Michigan with music, news and culture from the region and the world – every day, 24 hours a day:
CLASSICAL MUSIC
88.7 FM, Interlochen; 94.7 FM Traverse City; 88.5 FM, Mackinaw City, 105.5 FM Honor
Classical IPR presents quality classical music with news updates from National Public Radio and local reports, and also broadcasts outstanding musical performances from Interlochen and around the world. Classical IPR can be heard in more than 20 counties, from well above the Mackinac Bridge south to Big Rapids, and from Michigan’s west coast to Roscommon.
Your leadership gift to Interlochen Public Radio continues a legacy of artistic and journalistic excellence from the stages and studios of Interlochen and paves the way for IPR’s future.
In 1963, Joe Maddy, founder of Interlochen Center for the Arts, fulfilled a dream by creating a public radio station to broadcast classical music from the stages of Interlochen and around the world, free of commercials. This vision was ahead of its time, and in 1971, IPR became a charter member of National Public Radio.
In the decades since, listener support has helped IPR grow into an award-winning station, offering round-the-clock access to unbiased, balanced news and information on IPR News, and captivating music, arts and culture on Classical IPR. Your leadership gift can help IPR grow into something even greater than Joe Maddy ever imagined.
A gift to Interlochen is more than a donation: it s an investment in the life of an emerging artist. By sustaining a community in which talents are nurtured and cross-cultural bonds are forged, you cultivate the next generation of performers, audiences, and creative change-makers.
