This year, July 1 was spent in quiet remembrance of the indigenous children who lost their lives at residential schools throughout the nation. Canada Day was a somber and reflective time in Gananoque this year. No fireworks, no large public events, no raucous gatherings in red and white to celebrate Confederation and pride in nationhood.
