A bill that would ban puberty-blocking drugs and hormones to any youth younger than age 19 and subject doctors to criminal penalties is one step closer to becoming law after the Alabama House Health Committee voted in favor of the bill during a Wednesday morning.
The committee approved the bill, sponsored by Sen. Shay Shelnutt, R-Trussville on a voice vote. The bill was amended to prevent pharmacists from facing penalties, but would put physicians who prescribe the drugs at risk of a 1-to 10 year prison sentence.
