New Modern Hostel in Greenville Combines Boutique Hotel with a Hostel

Renata Parker Known for bunk beds, shared spaces, and a communal vibe, hostels have long been a popular form of lodging worldwide, especially among backpackers, cyclists, and travelers on a budget. In July of last year, owner Joe Hindman and investor David Stone Jr., bring fresh inspiration to the hostel experience to Greenville with the launch of Modal. A concept that was more than four years in the works, Modal is the first hostel in Greenville and the second in South Carolina. “There is a gap in the travel industry,” says Hindman. “The idea of mixing boutique hotel-style rooms with a hostel experience and perks, like last-minute bookings and more affordable rates, make today’s version of a hostel a more attractive option for a different type of traveler.”
