JOLIET (CNN) Police say a two-year-old boy died in Joliet, Illinois Wednesday morning from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Joliet Police said the boy s father called 9-1-1. The first officers on scene immediately began life-saving measures.
The boy was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the gun belonged to the boy s father. Things can go bad in a split second. You have to be conscious of where you re placing firearms, if you own them. I as a police officer and a firearm owner have to make that conscious decision every night. But again, bad things happen to good people, bad things happen quick, said Joliet Police Lt. Joe Egizio.
As police were searching for a former teacher at a Joliet diocesan school who was charged with traveling to meet a child and grooming, the 44-year-old man was admitted to a hospital, and his attorney told police that he will turn himself in after his release from the hospital, the Joliet Police Department said Saturday.
