Plagued By Turmoil, Boston Police Department On Standby As Investigations Play Out

Boston Police headquarters. (Joe Difazio/WBUR file) The last time the Boston Police Department faced this kind of intense scrutiny was in the early 1990s. Then Mayor Ray Flynn launched the St. Clair Commission to investigate the agency. The commission found a shoddy internal investigations system and recommended the police chief be fired. (He wasn’t.) Thirty years later, the police are under the microscope again. It s been more than two months since the department had a permanent leader. Commissioner Dennis White was placed on leave after revelations that he had been accused of domestic violence years ago. And over the weekend, the Boston Globe reported that the department continued to employ a police officer and union leader, Patrick Rose, for decades after he was accused of molesting a 12-year-old. He has since been charged with molesting other children over the years.

Three teens arrested in connection with a stolen car stopped in Weymouth

WEYMOUTH  Police said three teens were arrested after police stopped them while driving a stolen car with a loaded handgun inside. Police spotted the car, reported stolen in Brockton, on Lake Street shortly before 4 p.m. with three men inside. Police boxed the car in on Fairmount Avenue with a marked and unmarked cruiser. The driver, 18-year-old Anthony DeJesus, of Brockton, ditched the car and ran off, police said. The car was still in drive when he fled, and it rolled into the front of a cruiser causing minor damage. Inside the car, police officers said they found a loaded semi-automatic handgun between the driver s seat and center console. The two men inside, Michael Cole, 19, of Waltham and Myles Morales, 18, of Weymouth were arrested and charged with receiving a stolen vehicle.

Ayanna Pressley called Randolph s vaccination site a national model. Randolph was one of 20 communities hardest hit by the pandemic that the state let keep a local vaccination site, and leaders there have been able to use the site and other local clinics to administer more than 13,000 shots.  Randolph proves that when they get the resources they know what to do with them, Pressley said. It s the public s health, even though there are some communities that have been hardest hit by the pandemic, everyone has been impacted, and in the interest of public health we can t leave anyone behind.

Norwell firefighters tackle equipment fire at Zildjian cymbal company

Zildjian manufactures cymbals at the plant.  In a tweet, the Norwell Fire Department said the fire was contained to (a) large commercial dust collector and associated ductwork.   Fire Chief Jeff Simpson said the department was alerted about the fire shortly before 9.p.m. The fire started near the industrial processors of the manufacturing plant and triggered the warehouse s sprinklers. The dust collector, where the fire started, is about the size of a fire truck, Simpson said.

Even though there is a glut of true crime podcasts out there, what we thought we could bring to the table was our distinctive voice and really immersive storytelling, said Sherman, of Marshfield. Dave and I have put ourselves in harm s way investigating many of the crimes we ve covered over the years. By coming into close contact with killers on many different levels, we can really bring the listeners into those rooms. Sherman said  the podcast will present new information for people familiar with the stories they cover and a fresh look for people who aren t.
