CAPE CORAL, Fla. – When it comes to city parks, it’s hard to find a prettier spot than the site of the future Tropicana Park in northwest Cape Coral.
The land, which sits alongside the North Spreader Canal, doesn’t look like much yet. But it will eventually, and will also be the new home of the Cape Coral Rowing Club.
“We’re very excited about it,” Saundra Weston, the club’s program director, said. “[Rowing] is hugely therapeutic. It’s great, non-impact fitness.”
But getting access to the canal has not been easy for the club.
“I’ve never had to pitch something so hard, that has so many inherent benefits,” Weston said. “I felt a lot like the guy who invented sliced bread but then had to go and market it.”
