Washington post, this is one half hour. Good morning. I am jonathan capehart. Welcome to first look. The onestop shop for news and analysis all about the Democratic Convention. Join me each morning for uptodate information from Washington Post reporters, followed by commentary from prominent Washington Post columnists and contributors. We are starting this morning after the Democratic Convention with the man we started with. Glenn kessler, good morning and welcome. Dan, i will start with you. Give me your initial reaction to the speech last night by former Vice President and now democratic president ial nominee, joe biden. Dan i thought it was a very strong speech, probably one of the best speeches of a former Vice President and now democratic nominee has given his long career. This has been a pretty successful convention up to last night. But all conventions eventually depend on the performance of the nominee. There are questions about whether biden was going to rise to that moment. I
Resign either. This is the photo. Take a look. It shows one person dressed in blackface and another in a Klu Klux Klan robe and hood. The photo is on his page in his 1984 Eastern Virginia Medical School yearbook. A state lawmaker says northam told the legislative black caucus he cant recall which person he was in the photo. As the backlash mounted, the governor is now issuing this apology last night. That photo and the racist and offensive attitudes it represents does not reflect that person i am today or the way that i have conducted myself as a soldier, a doctor, and public servant. I am deeply sorry. Outrage is mounting by the minute. These are just a few of the people and organizations calling on northam to resign, including key support from his own party, like the Virginia House and Senate Democrats and the latest, former Vice President joe biden. Dan merica joins us from richmond, virginia. This gets more confusing by the moment only because of the way the governor is handling it

You always tell lawmakers calling them out and saying to do their damn job. Those are your words. Youre exactly right. We have called on this president to say the words that he finally said today. I hope this makes a difference, how many times have we have been sitting here on tv saying i hope this one changes things. And nothing happens. I hear you. I have ho
