Perhaps for the first time in his eventful and transformative 22-year presidency, Eddie McGuire has lost control of the decision on whether he continues at the helm of the Collingwood Football Club for the 2021 season.
McGuire has already committed to standing down as president at the end of this year, a move that surprised many within the club and AFL. But well-placed sources confirm that there have been discussions among his fellow board members about whether McGuire ought to serve out this year, as he intends, or be persuaded to step aside much sooner to provide fresh air for the Magpies.
