Staff Picks: Best meals on campus

Photo:  There are lots of things to miss about being on campus: walking past ivy-covered buildings, working in the libraries, and grabbing something delicious to eat between classes. To fuel your appetite for all things food at Queen’s and give you something to look forward to when learning starts returning to normal, some Journal staff divulged their favourite on-campus meals. The best meal on campus is the BLT and waffle fries from Location 21 (Loco). Unlike The Lazy Scholar, the food doesn’t come as quick, but it’s so much better. The bread is crispy, the bacon is greasy, and you don’t feel that gross dining hall feeling after you’re done. Plus, waffle fries could make any meal worthwhile, even when you have to trek all the way to the far end of campus.

Staff Picks: Favourite course

To celebrate the start of classes, a few Journal staff shared their all-time favourite courses. CLST 201: Roman History, taught by Dr. Bernard Kavanagh. To illustrate my admiration for this course and the man who teaches it, I’m going to start with a quote from the original Renaissance man, Leonardo Da Vinci: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” As a fourth-year history major, I can’t tell you how many professors I’ve watched frantically claim or proudly scoff that their course “surely won’t consist of any memorizing of dates and names” and proceed to teach the most unnecessarily complex material imaginable. Case in point: why this class was so refreshing for me. Even if you’re not partial to Roman history, I highly recommend you give this class, or the professor who teaches it, a look.
