The two-day Saudi Cup festival took place on Feb. 25-26 at the King Abdulaziz Racetrack where participants competed for their share of the $35.1m prize pot, including the two races sponsored by the Ministry of Culture — Al Mneefah Cup and the Jockey Club Local Handicap — each worth $1m.
Owned by Prince Saud Bin Salman Abdulaziz, ridden by Wigberto Ramos from Panama and trained by local Saudi trainer Mitab Almulawah the home crowd favorite pulled off a shock win against more fancied horses in the field including the winner of the 2021 edition Mishriff in the presence of the Crown Prince.
Brace yourself for a long day at the races on Saturday, starting off in the morning with the richest day in horse racing from Saudi Arabia and finishing in the early evening with the Rebel Stakes (G2) at Oaklawn Park.
